Welcome
Welcome to the Adjustment to College and Life Website!
We are two psychologists at UNR who have a grant from the National Institutes of Health to study how to help college freshmen adjust better to the challenges of college and life in general. To this end, we are offering a free 1-credit class focused on topics we think will help people adjust to not only college, but to life in general, to a group of students who volunteer to participate.
This website includes information about this project as well as about the UNR experience. If you have a question about the study, check out the overview page and our timeline for participants page. If you do not find an answer to your question, feel free to contact us at (775) 682-8676 or A2CUNR@gmail.com. Also, check out the map of the campus and the links to all sorts of campus resources.
For this study, we are inviting all first-time, full-time freshmen between 17-20 years of age to answer a brief online survey (5 minutes). Answering this survey is voluntary, and therefore, to thank you for your time taking this brief online survey, each participant will be entered into a drawing for a $300 gift certificate to the ASUN Bookstore(chance of winning: at least 1 out of 300).
Those who answer the survey might be eligible to participate in a 1-credit class free of charge in the fall or spring (depending on the year), designed to help students develop better coping strategies for college and life in general.
This project started in 2008. Approximately 250 freshmen completed the first round of classes during the 2008-2009 school year. Overall, the students who participated indicated they liked the classes and found them very helpful.
If you are a first time full-time freshman between the age of 17 and 20 and interested in participating, please look in your email inbox for an email labeled “Participate in a brief survey and become eligible for a free one-credit class" and follow the link to the survey. If you have any difficulties accessing this email or the survey, please contact us at (775) 682-8676 or A2CUNR@gmail.com.
Thank you for your interest in this project and welcome to UNR!
Sincerely,
Steven C. Hayes, Ph.D., Psychology Professor
